Broadway Legend Enlivens Art and Senior Education at Cal Poly
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA -- Spend an evening with Carol Channing June 1, 2008 at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center. Perhaps best known for her smashing successes on Broadway as Lorelei in 1950's Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and as Dolly in 1964's Hello, Dolly! Carol has one of the most easily recognized and highly imitated voices in the world. Sponsored by Cal Poly Continuing Education's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), this rare performance is part of Channing's commitment to California State Universities to help raise awareness about arts education in California's public schools.
Singing and dancing at 87, Channing is the quintessential spokesperson who embodies everything that OLLI represents. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute encourages seniors to concentrate on keeping their mind, body, and spirit healthy and growing. Tickets to see this master performer are on sale now for the June 1 show to be held at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo. Doors open at 5:30pm and the performance begins at 6pm. General admission is $25 and includes a 2008 membership to the Osher Life Long Learning Institute when tickets are purchased through Cal Poly's Continuing Education at (805) 756-2053. The evening is free to current OLLI members who must still call for tickets. Thanks to OLLI, this spectacular event is a true testament to Carol's belief that "Art is an elixir for the soul and it should be available to everyone."
Cal Poly Continuing Education's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute serves the Central Coast as a comprehensive lifelong learning and service program for those 50 and over. OLLI is a great organization for seniors who desire to continue their learning and stay intellectually and socially stimulated. This program is made possible through a generous grant from The Bernard Osher Foundation.
